President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday received a senior United Kingdom delegation led by Minister of State for Development and Africa, Baroness Jenny Chapman, at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.

The talks centered on strengthening strategic cooperation between Somalia and the UK, with a focus on security, state-building, economic development and investment.

President Hassan Sheikh briefed the delegation on progress made in stabilisation efforts, counterterrorism operations and the country’s ongoing democratic transition. He said Somalia remains committed to institutional reforms and expanding political participation as part of its broader state-building agenda.

The Head of State thanked the UK government for its continued support in security sector reform, humanitarian assistance and development programmes. He noted that British backing has played a key role in advancing peace and strengthening governance structures.

Minister Chapman reaffirmed London’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Somalia, emphasizing that stability in Somalia is vital to the wider Horn of Africa region.

Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including security, economic growth and long-term development.
